The new battleship is said to be futuristic and very energy efficient. It can produce similar amounts of energy in comparison to nuclear powered aircraft carriers. It produces enough energy to power itself, and has enough left over electricity to power a small town. The ship only needs a crew of 147 since it is "highly automated", yet it is over 600 feet in length. Each one of these ships costs a minimum of $4.4 billion, but the USS Zumwalt is the only current ship of its kind. As we discussed in class a few weeks ago, military spending is quite high in the United States. However, when we see our money being used to create the most technological advanced warship out there, it gives you a sense of pride, doesn't it? With tension growing around the globe, I think it is always better to be in a position of over spending in this area than under spending. Our Navy is constantly spread out around the globe, so it is important that they have the very best equipment so they are able to do their job of "ensuring stability", as the secretary of the US Navy put it.
