Tax on sugary foods and drinks backed by World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) has determined that raising prices on sugary food such as soda up to 20 percent can greatly improve the nutrition and health of people.  It is no surprise that eating less sugary and unhealthy foods is good for one's health, but having the government tax these goods in order to decrease their consumption can be seen as invasive.  However, the health benefits seen could greatly decrease the cost of healthcare in countries and it is often the case that the impoverished are turned to less healthy foods, so maybe with the tax the government could subsidize healthier foods for the poor.  I am on the fence in terms of how involved the government is in regulating what goes into our bodies but I feel it is a step in the right direction considering the government in the US used to be paid by the sugar industry to release studies lying about their health benefits.
