This is easily one of the most dangerous accusations you can throw a democracy's way. The key principle of a democracy is that it is run by the people (or officials we elect to represent us). Doubting whether or not our voices (votes) are actually being heard undermines each and every government action.
Either Trump is on to something, and this would call into question everything we currently think about our government (and in my humble opinion, would be reason enough to shut the entire thing down and start fresh ---> because why have a democracy if our votes don't count....?)
OR
Trump needs to shut up.
