Aides Say 'Trump a Genius' if He Paid No Taxes

http://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2016-37533263

Following last week's presidential debate, a report alledging that Donald Trump may have not paid any federal income tax for the last 18 years has been released. Aides to the White House candidate have responded by saying that, should the reports be true, then the Republican nominee is a 'genius'. This has implications for both his campaign and Hillary's. Not only could this cost him the support of those he may have only just won over (and push them over to the opposition's camp), but it could help Hillary to win over voters who still have not made up their minds as to who will win their vote in November.

I found this story fascinating, not least because there is a presidential candidate who would openly admit that not paying his fair share in taxes 'makes him smart'. However, what surprised me the most was his aides readily implying that this shows Trump's intellect and thus ability to lead the country. It will be interesting to see if this actually makes a difference in the polls; whether it will increase or decrease his support, or leave it unchanged. It also remains to be seen whether or not Trump will further address this issue in the debate next Sunday, and how he will do so should he speak about it.
