Presidential Campaigns and their TV commercial spendings

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/09/hillary-clinton-donald-trump-50-days-228339

Hillary Clinton is spending about 7 times the money on TV commercials than Trump is. The efficiency ramifications of this have to do with whether the money that Clinton's campaign is spending is actually worth it. It seems that despite having spent 7 times less money, Trump's campaign has just the same popularity and momentum as Clinton's (if not more). This article appealed to me the most this week because it made me wonder why anyone would be spending that much money on TV commercials (?!). I wonder how effective such a method is in garnering voters. It also makes me sad to see how little money Trump has to spend and the media will still run around him. It is unfortunate that an important thing like the presidential race has come down to who has the most money and who can hold the most air time, either by saying a lot of bizarre things or by buying airtime, none of which the media seems to have a problem with.
